1st Year Curriculum (Spring and Summer)

Undergraduate Research Methods –¬†AMST/EDUC 392 and Summer Research Institute (SRI)

Objectives:

  • Developing a relationship with a faculty mentor
  • Learn how to write a research proposal
  • Organize a research topic and question
  • Engage in and composing a literature review
  • Review research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative
  • Use technology in library research and in data collection and analysis procedures
  • Present research via PowerPoints, poster sessions, and in written form via abstracts and papers

Timeline:

  • January – May: Individualized, comprehensive advisement: academic, career, and personal
  • January – May: Mentoring from faculty, graduate students and professional staff
  • March: University of California All-Campus Graduate School Fair: UC Edge Program
  • April: National Graduate School Fair: California Forum for Diversity in Graduate Education
  • April: USC Annual Faculty Mentor & Scholar Banquet
  • May – July: USC Summer Research Institute (SRI)
  • July: USC Research Gateway Symposium
